Team awards kick start HMT’s 40th year celebrations

Healthcare Management Trust kicked off its 40th anniversary celebrations in style by honouring staff for their expertise, dedication and compassion.

The Growing Heroes Awards recognise team members from across all sites managed by HMT.

The awards have 10 categories including emerging leader, creatively collaborative, superb support and energetically enterprising.

More than 140 nominations were made, and the winners were named at a special celebration event held at Ramside Hall in Durham, attended by more than 100 members of staff.

Staff receiving awards included Appolonia Mandinyenya, Unit Manager at Coloma Court Care Home in Bromely, Joanne Brain, Executive Assistant and Grahame Chapman, Head of People and Culture.

Appolonia received the Awesomely Authentic Award and said: “I am truly grateful to have received this award and for the nomination from my colleagues.”

Joanne Brain was recognised with the Superb Support award and said: “I feel very honoured to have been nominated by my colleagues and to win the award was unexpected, but fabulous! The evening was amazing, seeing everyone supporting each other and all our services being together and having a great time was heartwarming.”

Grahame was named the Rising Star award winner. Grahame joined HMT five years ago as a People Relations Advisor and has steadily risen through the team. His commitment to HMT’s values, and consistently performing to exceptional standards was the basis for his nomination. He said: “Winning the award was both exhilarating and daunting, but the kind words from colleagues afterwards were the proudest moment for me. It was special to hear them share their positive experiences with our people team at HMT.”

Nichola Stefanou, CEO of HMT, gave her CEO Award to Bethan Griffiths, Commercial & Finance Business Partner for her positive attitude, dedication and ability to adapt in her role. Bethan said: “Winning the CEO Special Award is an incredible honour. This award is a reflection of both the hospital and finance teams’ shared commitment to improving and streamlining processes across the hospitals and within healthcare to make a meaningful difference in the future of HMT. Together, we will continue to innovate, inspire and lead with purpose.”
