HMT St Quentin’s celebrates Jamaican Independence Day
Residents and staff at St Quentin Care Homes celebrated Jamaican Independence Day in style, with a range of drinks, food and entertainment. The idea was brought to life by our activity’s coordinators, of whom one is from the country himself. The passion and love for his homeland was something we felt would be fantastic to share with our residents.
The afternoon was filled with Jamaican music, providing an opportunity for our residents to get up and dance, something we always encourage as it helps not just with mobility but brings a great deal of happiness too. Our chefs also stepped up to the plate, delivering a selection of mocktails, fresh fruit salads and a signature native dish, Jerk Chicken, to accompany the festivities. Residents and staff alike were overjoyed at the new and unique options available to try.
Winston, our, Jamaican born, activities coordinator said:
“I wanted to share the love of my country and it’s bright, vibrant nature with our wonderful residents. This was a perfect opportunity for them to experience the music, food and drink of my culture and I’m so happy to see them embrace it so lovingly.”
Events such as this one are a core part of our program at St Quentin’s, as we constantly look to bring new and exciting experiences to our residents. Granting them the ability to learn and enjoy a different culture is a truly rewarding experience and one which our staff always cherish to deliver.
St Quentin’s is proud to host staff members of many different cultures, showcasing the pride for their heritage and traditions. Jamaican Independence Day will be one of many events over the next 12 months that allows residents to continue learning from new and interesting cultures from all around the world.
